Peter was born and raised in the small rural mining town of Broken Hill in New South Wales in the late 1950s. His early days were spent playing sport, yet he was drawn to creating masterpieces from the ‘odds and ends’ drawer.
At 14 years of age his parents bought him his first camera: it was the first of many. On his first overseas trip at 19, Peter invested in an Olympus OM 10, putting him firmly on the path to an enduring love affair with portrait photography and the visual arts.
Living in a mining town Peter’s career choice was predestined by his parents, graduating high school and taking up a cadetship as an underground mine surveyor. Using the resource industry as a means, Peter was able to develop his passion for photography: principally portrait and landscape photography.
Winning both National and International photographic awards as a self taught professional, Peter undertook formal study to extend his creative vision. After successfully completing a Professional Photography Diploma the academia bug hit hard. Peter gained his First Class Honours degree in Photography (BA Hons) from University of Hertfordshire in the UK in 2018 and completed his Masters of Arts in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography with Merit in 2020 from University of the Arts London, London College of Communication. His long-term wish is to complete a PhD in Photography and then teach others how to tell compelling stories through the lens.
A father to four children, however the Canon, Phase One, three Leica’s and a plethora of camera bags fight for his attention. Peter describes himself as “a photographer trapped in a Safety Manager’s body”. He lives in Western Australia with his wife, Celia, and is an Associate and Licentiate Member of the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (APPL, AAIPP) and an Associate Member of the Royal Photographic Society (ARPS).
