One of the first things you notice when working in Kuwait is the driving culture on the highways, and it’s not good.
· In 2013, deaths from road accidents in Kuwait where 18.7 / 100,000 compared with the UK and Australia at 2.9 and 5.5 per 100,000 respectively. (WHO, 2013)
· In 2014, 461 people died in traffic accidents (Kuwait Times, 2015), or 11.5 per 100,000
· The Kuwaiti government is fighting back with ‘Traffic Campaigns’ as reported in The Times (2015) “Kuwaiti authorities fined 45,553 drivers in one week for non-compliance with traffic rules. Campaigns launched throughout the country’s six governorates have also netted 21 expatriates who will be deported for driving without licences.”
